Legal Modern Slavery statement

Modern slavery, including forced labour, human trafficking and child labour, is a serious violation of human rights. This statement sets out the steps Artive Commerce (Pty) Ltd takes to prevent it in our business and supply chain.

Artive is a South African company and is not required to publish a statement under the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015. We publish this one voluntarily because many of our clients and partners work under that standard, and because we share its aims. It also reflects our obligations under South African law, including the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act 7 of 2013, the Basic Conditions of Employment Act 75 of 1997 and the Constitution’s protection against slavery, servitude and forced labour.

Our business

Artive is a creative commerce agency based in Midrand, South Africa. We provide brand, design, e-commerce, marketing and technology services, and sell digital products and tools. Our work is carried out by our own team and by specialist freelancers and service providers.

Our supply chain

Our main suppliers are software and cloud service providers, freelance creatives (such as photographers, videographers, illustrators and developers), production and printing partners, and professional advisers.

Our commitments

  • We pay everyone who works for us fairly and on time, and at least the national minimum wage.
  • We never ask anyone to pay a fee to work with us, and never hold identity documents.
  • We do not use child labour, and we check the age of anyone working on a shoot or production.
  • We expect our suppliers and freelancers to follow the same standards, and we will stop working with anyone who does not.
  • Anyone can report a concern confidentially through our Right to Speak process, without fear of retaliation.

Assessing risk

We consider the highest-risk areas of our work to be physical production (such as shoots, printing and merchandise) and outsourced labour. In these areas we prefer suppliers we know directly, and we ask about working conditions before we engage them.
